panjanDrum

“This workshop is free, funky and takes place every Sunday. The vibes emitted are non-judgemental- they let everyone take part (irrelevant of your drumming ability) and will lend you an African drum if you don't have your own. A great thing for a place like Finsbury Park” from Qype

  our drum jam

For several years now we have run the panjanDrum, our weekly drum jam in Finsbury Park using our collection of African drums, congitas, bongos and anything else handy. We have a variety of drums to suit most sizes and types of people.

The drum circle is an ideal way for non-drummers or groups with a mixture of skills to experience drumming together and enjoy making music with others.

We don’t know of another free event like the panjandrum. The principles we work to are:

Respect: The Panjandrum is run by volunteers with very few resources simply because they want to do it. It is open to everyone provided they respect the place, the resources and the people.

Relaxation: The goal is to enjoy playing together, not to be best, loudest or fastest. It's a jam, not a lesson.

Listening: To drum together individuals must listen to the group.

Inclusion: the drum circle is for everyone with no restrictions because of skill, age, gender, language, culture, race, religion or background

Sharing: our space, our time and our skills. Everyone has an important part to play, anyone can start a good rhythm.

We have a variety of drums to suit most sizes and types of people (but ask before you borrow one: not all the drums are ours). It's free. It's from 3:00 to 6:00pm every Sunday.
